Section 05

How God Speaks

Six channels. All of them are real. They often work together — when several point in the same direction, that convergence is usually the strongest signal.

Six channels. All real. They often work together — convergence from multiple directions is the strongest signal.

Through Scripture.

The most reliable, most testable channel. Read slowly. Stop when something lands. The goal is not to finish the chapter — it is to meet the person.

Try this

Read one passage slowly this week. When something stops you, sit with it. Ask Jesus what he wants you to notice.

Through the Spirit's quiet prompting.

A nudge. A pull. A sense of direction that arises without obvious external cause. Easy to miss if you're moving fast.

Try this

When a quiet prompting surfaces today, notice it. Write it down. Test it before acting on anything significant.

Through prayer as dialogue.

Most people were taught to speak at God, not with him. Habakkuk stood at his watch post and waited to see what God would say. You can do the same.

Try this

Ask one specific question in your next prayer time. Then be still for five minutes. Write whatever comes.

Through other people.

The disciples on the Emmaus road had their hearts burning while Jesus talked with them — and didn't recognize him until later. God speaks through conversations.

Try this

Pay attention this week to what people say that carries more weight than the words alone. Bring it to Jesus.

Through circumstances.

A door that opens. A door that closes. A pattern. A provision at the right moment. God is present in ordinary events, not just dramatic ones.

Try this

Look back over the last month. Is there a pattern? Bring it to Jesus and ask what he's doing.

Through dreams.

God has always spoken through dreams. Not every dream is from him — but the ones that are tend to be vivid, coherent, and they stay with you.

Try this

Keep a notepad by your bed for two weeks. Write down what stays with you. Bring the significant ones to God and a trusted guide.

When multiple channels point the same direction, pay close attention. Convergence is usually the clearest signal.
