Section 06

The Practice — Ask and Journal

Four steps. Five minutes. One specific question. This is where hearing God stops being a concept and becomes something you actually do.

Four steps. Five minutes. One specific question. This is where it becomes real.

Step 1: Get still.

Five minutes of intentional quiet. Phone down. Sit. Say: Jesus, I'm here. I want to hear from you. That's enough of an opening.

Step 2: Ask one specific question.

Not a general prayer — a specific question. What do you want me to know today? What do you think of me? What do you want me to do about [specific thing]? One question.

  • Jesus, what do you want me to know today?
  • What do you think of me right now?
  • What do you want me to say to [specific person]?
  • What lie am I believing that you want to replace?
  • How do you see me?

Step 3: Write down what comes.

Whatever form it arrives — a word, a sentence, an image, a feeling. Don't edit. Don't evaluate yet. Just capture it.

Step 4: Return and test.

Come back to what you wrote. Apply the filters from Section 7. Give it time. Watch what it produces.

Five minutes. Three times this week. One question. Write whatever comes. Consistency builds something occasional attempts never will.

The journaling practice you build here is also the core mechanism in heart healing — bringing specific questions to Jesus and writing what comes back. If you sense that something deeper is blocking you as you practice, Heart Care picks up exactly where this leaves off. Heart Care →
